Ryan received a Bachelor of Science from East Tennessee State University in 1995 and a Master of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga in 2001. Prior to coming to the commission, he worked as a zoologist for the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program. Ryan's groups of interest include freshwater mussels, fishes, freshwater snails and crayfishes.
